End the writers strike!!

If I have to go much longer without a new episode of The Office, I may have no choice but to go to the gym on a Thursday night out of sheer boredom. Although, this is pretty hilarious......

New York City

Starting out with a McDonald's bacon, egg and cheese bagel sandwich, we started out to DC. Courtney, Catherine, Kevin and me. After $22 in tolls, gas, high school mixes 2 and 3, a singalong to The Last Five Years and a couple wrong turns... I looked out the window to see The Statue of Liberty. Gotta love her. It's been awhile since I've seen it. It's almost so odd to think that its there, in the middle of the water. I love it.

We found Kate's apartment, a parking spot and hauled our belongs up FIVE FLIGHTS of stairs. You think we were camping out for weeks.
I went to the NY MOMA, which just puts the SFMOMA to shame. Starry Night, Seurat, Picasso etc etc etc etc etc. It was so overwhelming, which really fits to the theme of the entire city. Sort of overwhelming with a lot of people going a lot of places. Make sense? We ate lunch at Carnegie's Deli. OMG it was AMAZING. For a girl who knows her sandwiches... it has to be this, and Domini's in Spokane. But really, what could beat the famous Carnegie's Deli?

We wandered around the Village, found Magnolia and the Marc stores. We went to Century 21 where I bought leg warmers. We went back to Kate's to prepare for the evening. I somehow ended up dancing in my dress and tights, Chris and Marcelo came over and we headed out to the village. Steph met up, Miranda met up, Ryan Mekenian met up. It was so much fun!! The night ended with the cab dropping us down the block at the 24 hour pizza place, me eating...2 or 3 slices of pizza in bed surrounded by 10 pillows and Kate lovingly shoving a peanut butter bar in my mouth. Delicious. Amazing.

Sunday we woke up and saw the Fantasticks. Which was amazing! Then we all headed our separate ways. Steph and I to shop and look at Bryant park. And we met back up at Carmines, a family style Italian restaurant, where 10 of us spend 4 hours eating pasta, talking, debating..(though some from the West may call it arguing) and loving it.
I'm so glad I got to see Steph, even if it was for a short while.

Monday was my last day in DC. court and I shopped around Georgetown and got the keys to her new apartment! Which I am going to have to go back to and see. :)

Washington DC

I was lucky enough to take off work and travel to DC to visit my sister Courtney!

I took the red eye on Tuesday night on Virgin America. AMAZING. My flight was practically empty, I had my own row of seats so I could lay down. I couldn't sleep from all the excitement with my touch screen. I played video games. I watched music videos (including Fergie's Big Girl, just so I could see Milo without his shirt on), I made a playlist of music which I fell asleep to and woke up listening to "I'm just a Bill".

DAY 1 WASHINGTON
I thought it would be a good idea to walk from Courtney's house (across from the National Cathedral) through Georgetown, down Pennsylvania Avenue, to the White House! (which I shed a tear, and wondered why it looked so much bigger in the movies), to the Washington Monument, down the reflecting pool, to the Lincoln Memorial (where I couldn't walk up the steps so I had to call Ian while I rested), to the Jeffereson Memorial, down the mall, through the National Air & Space Musem, where they are also housing the collection form the National History Museum (where I saw Lincolns top hat, Edison's light bulb and Kermit the Frog all in one row). Finally I ended at the Capital where I saw Court's office! So extremely professional. I'm proud people are actually working towards the greater good...while I am working for the weekend.
That evening Court and I met with Kevin to see the Motion City Soundtrack concert! Lots of 15 year olds, and mosh pitting. "The one good thing about that moshpit was I think those stupid girls got killed"

For Ian

DAY 2 WASHINGTON
The archieves, the Native American museum, Supreme Court, and that other building I can never remember. Amazing pesto pasta in Adams Morgan. The day I saved the children's health insurance (by putting 30 boxes of pizza through an xray machine) and met Leader Hoyer. It started like this. He walked by, Courtney made her huge eyed face at me, I knew from the picture on her fridge it must be the Leader. He walked back, took a look at me sitting in the front armchair by courts desk. "Who are you?" me popping up to my feet as Courtney says, "This is my sister!" me shaking his hand and saying "I'm Whitney" and his face softened as he described courts job as the hardest one in the office... she's the first one everyone sees and her smile and appearance sets the tone for their entire visit. Loved it. Loved him. Especially when he walked away and said, Good to meet you Whitney. Name repetition...amazing.

DAY 3 WASHINGTON
The National Art Gallery, Museum of Natural History, me watching an Imax 3D movie about prehistoric water animals... by myself. My last trip to the capital. DC9... 6 dollar entry, open bar 'rail' drinks. dancing, electronica band playing Arcade Fire. Dancing, etc etc. A short sleep until our drive to NYC.........

The Reason...

Though I have already created three blogs.... (American Journalism Ethics,Travel blog....etc) I felt it necessary to start again.
To record, to preserve, for myself.

I hope you enjoy it.
